Story of a Cobbler’s son: There was a cobbler who used to sit on a roadside and stitch shoes. This was daily routine. His son used to accompany him and help him whenever required. They used to make some money which filled their day to day needs. The son often wondered instead of stitching shoes can we not make shoes and sell the same on road side and make more money to improve our living standards. The story ends here.

An Entrepreneur is person who is born to create wealth for himself, his employees and his investors. He is the owner of a business. He creates opportunities and employment. He is here to bring innovation, creativity, change and transformation. Wealth is the ultimate objective to be in the shoes of an entrepreneur. Wealth is the motivation to succeed and it is the ultimate outcome of hard work, intelligence, patience, perseverance and risk he has taken to don the cap of entrepreneurship.

An Entrepreneur is a person whose vision is to become economically independent and contribute to the improvement of society. He is intelligent, aggressive, calculative, patient and above all a quick learner and opportunist.

He has risk taking capabilities. He dreams of success and learns from his failures. He strongly believes in capitalism and works towards financial freedom. He is passionate about his work and continuously makes progress in improving his relationship with his employees, customers and investors.

He has the power to create. He dreams and converts them into reality. He comes with the solutions to the most complex problems.

Above all he is no different from you,

An Entrepreneur can be from a business family, he can be from a poor, middle class or rich family, uneducated, school dropout, construction labour, MBA, graduate, student, worker, unemployed or anybody. Will is the primary qualification required for becoming an Entrepreneur.

Entrepreneurship starts with you, you being the core of your business entity. It starts with an idea that creeps in your mind. Charging your heart, your body and mind continuously till you decide you need to do something about it. It starts with your limitations, your knowledge and above all your desires. What you want to be, where you want to reach, what you want to gain and what you want to deliver. It is very fresh and nobody knows about it.

What makes you take that first step? It is passion. You have to be passionate about your idea. You have to be confident about your decision even a slight hesitation will not work your way. You have to be very positive about the choice you have made. Your thoughts are the ground where the seeds of entrepreneurship are sown. Any negative weeds will root out your idea so you need to be very careful about it. Before a child takes birth it remains protected in the mothers womb till it gets fully developed. Similarly your idea needs protection and development before it is brought into real world. Positive thoughts will nurture it and negative thoughts will injure it.

What is your idea all about, is it solution, service, product, research, comfort, luxury, commodity, trade. What is the goal? Have you started with a specific goal in your mind? You will have to ask your self, how is it going to benefit the society. Is it going to create wealth, employment, solution to problem, is it a discovery or innovation. You need to define your goal & objectives around your idea. You have to be clear on all the points. Once you have clarity in your mind try to make a note of your thoughts on a peace of paper and try to realize about it’s merit and need for the society at large.

Your mind is the realm of knowledge. All that you see material in this world first emanated in the mind. Your knowledge is what gives you the strength. You are the first to see the visions of your mind. They are the super house of ideas.

Cobbler’s story is a hypothesis. The story is simple with the son desiring to create shoes to be sold in market. The desire is in his mind. To convert this desire into realty is what entrepreneurship is all about.

Can you work on the cobbler’s hypothesis? Can you imagine him creating shoes, can you imagine him selling in the market and can you imagine meeting his objective of making more money and improve his living standard. When you are doing this you will encounter that it is not as simple as it seems to be. You will encounter many problems the cobblers son will face to fulfill his dream. He is from poor family and lives hand to mouth. Where will he bring money to buy leather, who will make the shoes, how will he sell them and who will buy from him. How many shoes he sells to breakeven. When will he make profits to improve his living standards? Who will sponsor him for this venture? These are the challenges you will encounter when you walk the path of Entrepreneurship.

The cobbler’s son’s is a reflection of an Entrepreneurial mind. He has an idea of making a shoe. He seeks transformation from stitching shoes to making shoes. He is planning to enter the zone where he has no experience. This is his risk taking ability. His objective is clear of making more money and improving his living standards. The hypothesis of cobbler’s sons brings the essentials of conceiving a business from scratch.

He has a product taking shape in his mind. He has to raise a capital to create that product. He will have to find the people to make the product. He will have to find a market to sell the product.

The above process is an entrepreneurial process. When your mind reflects upon this story your imagination goes through the complete cycle of staring a business. It is an exercise to your mind.

While doing this you are coming face to face with your Idea. Now you have a chance to question yourself. Now your Idea will face the test. You will be the first person to test your idea. Your idea can be a product, service, research, information, knowledge, trade anything which has a prospective buyer. I want to repeat: a prospective buyer. You idea needs a buyer, without a buyer you stand nowhere. Your idea has no value. Your idea is non-existent. It may be dear to you but if there is no market for it, it does not qualify for business. An entrepreneur is the owner of a business. So you are going to create a business.

What is required to create a business? You already have a will; your idea must have developed; now you need to convert the idea into a product which is saleable. Your Product will define your Goal. Your goal will identify your customers. Your customers will show you the Market. Finally your Market will show you the strength of your company on which the Capital Invested will deliver returns.

I’m totally confused .. Any tips? Many thanks!

P.S. If you have a minute, would love your feedback on my new
